Rooted in Purpose
Every product has a story. Mine began long before Organic Touch Essential Blends was founded.
My journey with botanical wellness has been shaped by personal experience, family legacy, and a belief that caring for ourselves naturally is an act of purpose.
My experience with hair loss began at an early age. That journey led me to study hair and scalp wellness more deeply and eventually inspired me to create products that support healthy scalps through intentional botanical ingredients. Years later, after experiencing persistent scalp tightness, dryness, and discomfort of my own, I began developing the botanical scalp treatments that would eventually become Botanical Scalp Therapy™.
But my story didn’t begin there.
It began with my family.
In 1966, during one of the most significant chapters in Black history, my father, Wilbert C. Jackson, and his business partner, Khalil Muhammad Sr. (also known as Dennis Taylor), founded Magnificent Natural Products.
Their company emerged during the Black Power Movement, when Black men and women across America began embracing their natural hair as an expression of identity, dignity, cultural pride, and self-determination. What had long been discouraged suddenly became something to celebrate. Wearing natural hair became part of a larger movement that encouraged Black people to define beauty for themselves.
Magnificent Natural Products was established through Jim Brown’s Black Economic Union, an initiative created to help establish and strengthen Black-owned businesses through economic empowerment. Muhammad Ali was an integral part of that initiative, working alongside Jim Brown and other leaders who believed that economic independence was essential to building stronger Black communities.
As the natural hair movement grew, my father and Khalil helped meet the needs of a generation looking for products created specifically for Black hair. Their work represented more than hair care. It became part of a movement that celebrated Black identity, entrepreneurship, ownership, and community.
Growing up surrounded by this history shaped our entire family. My father and Khalil taught us that building a business could be about more than earning a living—it could be about serving a community, creating opportunity, and leaving a legacy.
Their example inspired the next generation. Today, my two brothers have each built successful businesses in the hair and skin care industry, continuing the entrepreneurial spirit that began with my father. My own journey led me to Organic Touch Essential Blends, where I carry that family tradition forward through botanical wellness products for the scalp, skin, and body.
Another important chapter of my journey took me to Shashemene, Ethiopia, where I managed a residential community. Living there deepened my appreciation for traditional plant knowledge and everyday botanical living. While searching for a natural way to protect against mosquitoes and other biting insects, I developed what would become Organic Touch Essential Blends’ Skin-Soothing Insect Repellent—one of the first products in our collection.
Today, Organic Touch Essential Blends reflects both my personal journey and the legacy that came before me. Every formulation I create is my own, inspired by my experiences and guided by the values I inherited: purpose, integrity, craftsmanship, and service.
The interview below captures another chapter of this journey as I introduced Organic Touch Essential Blends’ Skin-Soothing Insect Repellent on TVJ Weekend Smile in Jamaica. Together with our family’s historical archives, it represents a legacy that spans generations—from the Black Power Movement to today.
Organic Touch Essential Blends is not simply a business. It is my contribution to a family legacy rooted in Black history, the natural hair movement, botanical wellness, and the belief that what we build should improve people’s lives.
One final note.
You may notice that I use artificial intelligence (AI) to help create some of my marketing materials, website content, and business infrastructure. While I embrace modern technology, the heart of this company has always been deeply human. Every product, every formulation, and every decision begins with me.
I am Arlene Green, founder and CEO of a real Black woman-owned business built on a family legacy that began during the Black Power Movement. Every product, every formulation, and every business decision is mine, shaped by my personal experiences, my family’s history, and my commitment to creating intentional botanical wellness products.
Technology helps me tell my story. It doesn’t create it.
Thank you for being part of our journey.
